What Youll Do as a School-Based SLP
As a school-based SLP, your responsibilities include evaluating speech and language abilities, developing IEPs, delivering individualized therapy, and collaborating with teachers and parents. Youll help students overcome communication barriers and improve academic participation and social engagement. Your work will provide critical support to students across multiple grade levels.
Licensing & Credentialing Requirements Louisiana
To practice as an SLP in Louisiana public schools, you must:

Hold a Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology

Be licensed by the Louisiana Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (LBESPA)

Complete certification through the Louisiana Department of Education (Level 1 or 2 Ancillary Certificate)

Possess ASHA certification (CCC-SLP), or be eligible as a Clinical Fellow under approved supervision
